A year-long funk of anemic writing

Have you ever gotten into a funk that’s lasted a while? You know, the kind where things that previously interested you didn’t hold your interest, and you couldn’t explain why?

I haven’t been writing as much as I used to, haven’t been reading as much as I ought to, and have not been able to understand why.

I’m glad to say that I think I’m coming out of that. Part of it was inspired by the fact that Rosanna got me a Kindle for Christmas, and also my break from school has allowed me to stop and think, “What do I want to be reading?” I’ve been reading so many required things that I’ve been doing hardly any pleasure reading outside of Harry Potter for the last year or so.

When I read, thoughts happen. Which means blogging happens.

So, thanks for reading my blog. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll post some more.

Bored in the head?

I used to blog a lot more. I haven’t blogged much lately. Not sure why. It’s like I’ve been letting the life of my mind sort of go to waste. I’ve been noticing a consistent desire to tune-out a lot more than I used to. That’s not good. Honestly, I just feel dull in the head. I need to have it sharpened by some good books. And I need to turn all of my technology off. Or tame it. My iPhone is an absolute blast, but dang if it doesn’t end up sucking my brain power away with endless little amusements, always at my beck and call. How’s this for fun reading? I know you want more of where this came from. :o) I’ll try to make this blog worth your time….

Unfortunate delay

Somehow my planned big blog entry has been deleted along the way. I’m not sure where or how, but it’s gone. This will simply mean that I’ve got an obstacle to overcome getting this thing out. It was pretty good, too. I believe it’s for the best, because I want to be able to say what I’m thinking accurately, fully, and clearly. It wasn’t at that point when I left it last. Didn’t something like that happen to Coldplay with X&Y? They pretty much started over from scratch? I don’t remember exactly. Anyway, keep the faith. I’ll get it out. This week, we’re moving. That means time will be a very valued commodity. I’ve written a few things over on LiveLoud, the blog of my friend Doug Stuart. It’s in the comments of his post, Punished with a baby?!.

New site design, FTW!

I apologize for any frustrations you’ve had trying to get onto my website today. I’m in the process of upgrading to a new version of my blogging software, and there are some hiccups coming along the way. But I’m glad that it’s happening. It will keep me blogging more.

Thanks for hanging with me. Comments should work now, BTW. So, comment away. :o)

Comments: Fail?

Apparently my comments no longer work. Hang tight and I’ll figure it out. I haven’t used my blog in a while, and my old authentication system is no longer working. Updates are just around the corner, so hang tight. If you’re my friend on Facebook, write on my wall for now. :o) You guys are the best. I aim to keep you coming back with consistent entries that, I hope, will hold your interest.

One step ahead of spam

I’m telling you, if it’s one thing I’m growing more and more aggravated by, it’s spam. It’s free enterprise gone horribly, horribly wrong. I’m having to change my comment system on my websites due to a flood of spams I’ve been getting in the forms of comments. Unfortunately, the only few solutions I’ve found for comment spam (that is, unregistered bots posting links to their sites for their wares) are way over my head. Dean Peters attempted to help me by telling me how he has been able to reduce his spam load to nearly zero, but it’s far too technical for this guy to take advantage of. I get overwhelmed when the steps for a process go beyond five steps, and this is fifteen or so, and it involves perl and a lot of stuff I have no knowledge of how to work or tweak. So, I’m going to try a TypeKey registration. TypeKey is a useful service that allows you to have a central blog identity for posting on various websites in order to help reduce unauthorized commenting. I hope it helps reduce the voluminous amounts of spam I’ve been getting, and I hope it’s not too inconvenient for my readers. Registration is free and easy, and it works on both my websites. Of course, I don’t get a lot of comments, so it’s not that big a deal. I’m just tired of getting up to see I have 18 new comments and they’re all spam. Blech. Enough venting. I’m going to work on an entry regarding Romans 7 and 8 I feel rather strongly about. Seriously, try registering. TypeKey’s website

Justified Sinners

Hey, guys. Wanted to link you to that new site I had mentioned a couple of entries ago. While it’s no way done to the extent I want, there’s a preview release available by clicking right here. Keep in mind the structure and name is temporary, but the content, while very anemic at this point, will more or less remain the same and will grow. I’m finishing up on finals and will hopefully release what is to me the most important concept I have learned this year through all of my experiences. I’ll give it more time when I get it. Until then, enjoy browsing around the other site. God bless you. :o)

A thief doth not become an honest man when the prison or stocks do hinder him from stealing, but when a changed heart doth hinder him. Richard Baxter, The Sinfulness of Flesh-Pleasing

Planned Updates

Hit REFRESH if things look a little funny. New stylesheet I’m messing with. I’ve been around for a little while on the net now, and I think it’s time to make some modifications to the site again. I want to refine it a bit to make it more relevant and helpful, make it more pleasant to look at and easier to navigate. I want to cut out the trivial junk like what websites I’m liking and blah blah blah. The “Books I’m Reading” section has changed slightly. Instead of linking to where you can buy the book, it links to thoughts on the book as I’m reading it. Right now, there’s a link to John Owen’s The Mortification of Sin and you can read some highlights of it. If/when I finish the book, I’ll put it in as a permanent review. I might do the same for some albums, though things get a bit dicier with copyright law and such. I don’t want to get busted for posting lyrics that I’m not supposed to. Anyone have any idea what the copyright laws on posting lyrics are, how much you can post, etc.? Also, in the future I might possibly be launching a new website which will be a collection of contributions from several of my friends regarding God and life. Let’s face it, I’m pretty darn one-sided. I have one view of God that graciously comes from the experiences He’s leading me through. But I’m imbalanced, and one of the Scriptures that is leading me to see this is not only a good idea but rather essential is from 1 Corinthians 12:16-21.
